The worst ever DIRT ! ROAD getting to Mataranka

Tomato Island Roper River Camp
Towns River Camp

Email from Anja, Thursday morning at Mataranka: Before we head 4 Katherine this morn...thought i'd fill time doin the past 8 day ordeal along the Nathan River Road 2 Roper Bar. Every swear word u known was used 2 discribe this road...by the second day...we were hot, exhausted & so over this rough road...we lay there looking 4 the Lord 2 send a truck...the next empty ute was ours... Dean was prepared 2 hitch back 2 Borroloola 2 get Charlie 2 rescue us...& I was hanging out 4 mobile reception 2 call John & Di Scott 2 get us (god saved Johns vehicle) but still no-one came...not even the next day or the next day...then our egos gave up the desire 2 b rescued... only 3 more days b4 Roper Bar...Wow that was a shock too...no beer, take-away, no metho 4 our stove or any motel in sight...& still no recption 2 call John. But an hr later (after the general tradestore opened...food n coke in our tums) we heard we had bitumin 40 kms away. some parts of the Nathan River road was gr8 but shocking 75%of the way. The bike held up well.
"Wow that was for sure!"
Stuffed at Roper Bar Store
Super "loose" gravel ....some fun!!!!!!!!!
Tought we'd never get there....... if a ute came along we were going to hitch a ride......................... none came!

Dean's ARSE/BUTT pain level of this section 9.99 out of 10

Message to Dean & Anja from Natalie in South Australia
Hi Dean and Anja,
Well as you have now been on the road for such a long time I thought I'd take the opportunity to give you an update on what has occured in good ole SA since you've been away. Petrol prices $4.05 litre. Murray River completely dried up, now have to shower in Beer, water plants in Beer, swim in Beer, growing Barramundi in fresh water Beer tanks and of course drink lots of Beer. Crows bottom of ladder and since lost 30,000 supporters (including Wen Wen and Trav). SA invented new Bicycle Seat that promises no sore Arse! SA Heart Surgeon practices New "Stent" on Trav's heart yesterday - was a success. SA Heart Surgeon advises Trav can drink 4 glasses of Red each day and won't affect heart. Trav Celebrates.!!! As you can see we have been busy here in SA whilst you are making your way to finish line. Thinking of you and look forward to celebrating with you.
