Cumberland Chimney
Historic sites such as Cumberland Chimney are a reminder of the gold rush which occurred during the 1870s in the Georgetown region. Built by Cornish masons, the chimney is all that remains of a crushing plant contracted by the surrounding mines to crush their ore. The chimney was part of a large town including three hotels and a bank and now sits approximately 20km out of Georgetown on the left hand side of the road if travelling west toward Croydon. Nature lovers will enjoy the scenic lagoon next to the chimney. Designed and built to collect water through a series of earthwork channels and a dam, the lagoon is now home to an array of birdlife from the area.
