The Tandem Duo have arrived in Normanton after a four hour battle this morning against a strong headwind. Getting looked after by tourists along the way offering them beers and champagne. Staying in caravan park opposite The Famous Purple Pub. Resting in Normanton before heading west again ....along the dirt road.... Both in great spirits ....still. Busy packing excess winter gear to send back to Cairns ..... hot in day ...starting off each day at 6am in the dark with helmet lights on. Photos to follow....
Normanton
The major business centre in the Gulf is Normanton. Visit historic buildings including the Penitentiary, where legend has it that the last Gulf hanging took place. The area has a number of good fishing spots and make sure your camera is ready for the wide array of bird life. The historic 'Gulflander' train (Savannah Guides) runs from the original railway station to Croydon every Wednesday, returning to Normanton on Thursday. Charter rides are also catered for. Have your photo taken next to the 'Big Barramundi' and 'Krys the Savannah King', a life size replica of the largest crocodile ever caught. Accommodation available in Normanton includes hotels, motels and caravan parks. Fuel, mechanical repairs, medical facilities, banking facilities and food are all available in Normanton. Fishing tours on the Norman River can also be done with a Savannah Guide.
